We’re about a day late to bring you this series of posts as we found it really difficulty to just pick 100 from the thousands of games released for our Best of 2010 iPhone Games. Let’s start with the FREE games. These free games really made the paid games sweat as they continuously rank high on the top grossing list.

Adventure Bay , ngmoco released a couple other farming games including We Rule Quests   and We Farm . In the end, this game’s design and unique treasure hunting mini game won our hearts.

Farmville by Zynga , I can definitely hear your cries wherever you are in the world. TheAPPera, FarmVille seriously? It may not be on our personal top 50 list, but you can NEVER give accolades to freemium games and not the best ever social game that started it all.

Gun Bros , Glu Mobile had a long history of releasing various paid games. They shocked everyone by opting for the freemium model for this addicting dual stick shooter. The reward for their risk? A spot on our top 100 for 2010.

Pocket Frogs , out of this list, this one surprised me the most. The previous looked great, but the main gameplay was questionable. Trading frogs, breeding them and taking the frogs to a pond, how fun is that? Super addicting fun! The freemium model for this game is one of the bests, non-cutthroat schemes we’ve seen this year as well.

Pocket Legends , you knew it was only a matter of time until someone attempts to crack at World of Warcraft iPhone. You didn’t expect it to be in the form of pocket monsters. That is exactly what Spacetime Studios did and continues to enjoy great success with.

Restaurant Story , Team Lava is ngmoco’s closest competition. They’ve released a wide variety of free games with gameplay’s closely resembling Zynga games. Honestly, these guys are so good we felt Zynga made a bad choice not buying this studio out.

Smurfs’ Village , CAPCOM took a jab at the freemium games this year as well. They took on a storied children’s franchise, and the results were adorable. Farming, baking, potion making blue little monsters style. This is why the Smurf’s invade our top 100 of 2010.

Stardunk , the paid games market is a strong one. This game started relatively well as a paid game, but it didn’t reach epic status until it dropped to free. This online multiplayer “basketball-lite” game continues to be one of my most played games to this day.

Tap Tap Revenge 4 , this series continues to do what both Guitar Hero and ROCK BAND iPhone both couldn’t do: offer a huge selection of current popular songs. The latest version finally supports retina display for maximum music tapping.

Zombie Farm , last but not the least is this zombie farming game combined with zombie line defense slash strategy minigame. It’s one of the earliest and most successful free games NOT coming from Zynga or ngmoco. If you think the concept is weird, just wait until you actually play the game.

For reference, here’s our Top 50 iPhone Games 2009. Note that this list is in alphabetical order, final rankings won’t be available until the site’s second year anniversary on January 18, 2011. Please reserve comments about games not appearing on our top 100 UNTIL the full list has been revealed sometime tomorrow.
